The number that ultimately matters is your billable weight, the greater of your dimensional weight and your actual scale weight. If a box works out to 9 lbs dimensional but weighs 3 lbs on the scale, you are billed for 9. If that same box weighed 12 lbs, you are billed for the actual 12.

- Round up, then compare to the actual weight. 8.43 becomes 9 lbs, so if the box weighs 3 lbs on the scale, your billable weight is the greater figure, 9 lbs.
Ship that same box internationally, and you divide by 139 instead: 1,400 / 139 = 10.07, which rounds up to 11 lbs. Same box, heavier billable weight, which is exactly why the domestic or international choice matters before you quote a price.
