When a shipment shows “For Orders” status, it means your items are being picked, packed, and prepared for shipment but haven’t left our facility yet. This is a normal intermediate stage that typically lasts 1-3 business days.
What “For Orders” Actually Means
“For Orders” is the status you’ll see once your order has been received and processed by the fulfillment center, but before it’s been handed off to the carrier. Think of it as the preparation phase. Your items exist in our warehouse, we’ve confirmed we have them in stock, and we’re actively working on your order—but the package hasn’t been packed into a box and scanned for shipment yet.
You might also see related statuses like “Picked,” “Packing,” or “Ready to Ship” during this same window. These all fall under the “For Orders” umbrella. The exact terminology depends on your integration and software setup, but they’re all telling you the same thing: your order is moving through the warehouse, not sitting idle.
It’s important to understand that “For Orders” does not mean something is wrong. It’s expected. Every single order goes through this stage. You should only worry if an order stays in this status for more than 5 business days without moving forward.
Why This Status Exists
3PL fulfillment operations need to batch orders efficiently to save money and time. When orders arrive throughout the day, we don’t immediately pack each one individually. Instead, we group picking and packing activities. Your order might be waiting for other orders heading to the same region, or we might be optimizing pick routes to reduce warehouse labor time.
This batching process is why you exist in “For Orders” status. We’re confirming inventory, pulling your items from shelves, quality-checking them, boxing them up, weighing them, and generating shipping labels. Depending on order volume, this can take anywhere from 4 hours to 2 business days. During peak seasons (Black Friday, Cyber Monday, holiday rush), expect closer to 2-3 business days.
The carrier doesn’t pick up shipments on a continuous basis either. Most facilities have 1-2 daily pickups scheduled. So even if your order is packed and ready, it might sit in the “Ready to Ship” queue for a few hours waiting for the next scheduled carrier pickup. This is completely normal and not a delay.
What Happens Next and Expected Timing
After “For Orders,” your shipment moves to “Shipped” status once the carrier scans it at pickup. From there, you’ll typically see carrier tracking information populated within 2-4 hours. You can use that tracking number on the carrier’s website (FedEx, UPS, USPS, DHL, etc.) to get real-time updates.
Here’s the typical timeline for a standard ground shipment:
- Order placed: Day 0
- “For Orders” status: Day 0 to Day 2 (most common: within 24 business hours)
- “Shipped” status: Day 1 to Day 3
- In-transit with carrier: Day 2 to Day 8 (depending on distance and service level)
- Delivery: Day 5 to Day 10 from order placement
These timeframes assume standard ground service and orders placed before 2 PM Eastern time on a business day. Expedited services (2-day, overnight) move through “For Orders” faster because they’re prioritized in the warehouse. International orders can take 2-5 business days just in the “For Orders” stage before they leave the facility.
During holiday peak seasons (mid-November through December 26), add 1-2 extra business days to every stage. We post peak season hours on our website, so check there if you’re shipping during high-volume periods.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
Issue: Order stuck in “For Orders” for 4+ business days. First, verify you didn’t place the order on a weekend or holiday—those don’t count toward business day calculations. If it’s genuinely been 4+ business days, check if there’s a note in your order about inventory issues. If you ordered an item that’s currently out of stock, the order will stall. Contact support with your order number and we’ll investigate immediately.
Issue: Status hasn’t updated in 24 hours and you’re approaching a deadline. Check your email for hold notifications. Sometimes orders are flagged for address verification or payment issues. These require your action to proceed. If no notification was sent, reach out to support with your order number and expected delivery date. We can prioritize if there’s a time-sensitive situation.
Issue: Different orders showing different times in “For Orders.” This is expected. Orders are processed and batched independently. An order placed 1 hour after yours might ship 12 hours before yours because it was batched with a faster-moving group. This isn’t unfair—it’s how warehouse efficiency works at scale.
Issue: You received a tracking number but carrier says it doesn’t exist yet. Give it 2-4 hours. The label is generated before pickup happens, so the number shows in our system before the carrier fully processes it. Refresh the carrier’s tracking page after a couple of hours.
