What Does Released to Store Mean?
Released to store means your inventory has been processed, packed, and handed off to the carrier for shipment to your customer’s location. Once it shows this status in your Fulfyld dashboard, the package is out of our warehouse and on its way.
What It Actually Means for Your Orders
When an order status changes to “released to store,” it signals a specific handoff point in the fulfillment process. Your 3PL partner (that’s us) has completed all warehouse activities—picking items from bins, quality checks, packing into boxes, generating shipping labels, and staging the package for carrier pickup. The order is no longer sitting in our facility.
This status appears in your Fulfyld dashboard after we’ve physically transferred the package to the carrier’s dock or pickup area. For most carriers, this happens within 1-2 business days of order receipt, though timing depends on your SLA and current order volume.
The package itself now has a tracking number. Customers can monitor progress from this point forward using that number, but they’ll see carrier updates (like “in transit” or “out for delivery”), not warehouse updates. You’ll still see the “released to store” status in your Fulfyld account as a record of when we handed it off.
Why This Status Exists
The “released to store” status exists because you need visibility into when your inventory leaves our control and enters the carrier’s network. Without this checkpoint, you’d have a gap between “we packed it” and “the customer received it,” and you wouldn’t know who was responsible if something went wrong during that window.
From an operational standpoint, this status also helps you reconcile your records. It tells you exactly when to trust the carrier’s tracking system as your source of truth. Before “released to store,” any delays or issues point back to us. After it, responsibility shifts to the carrier.
For accounting and reporting, this status also marks the moment your inventory becomes a liability for the carrier instead of the 3PL. It’s the legal handoff point where shipping risk transfers. If you’re tracking fulfillment metrics, “released to store” is the milestone that counts as a completed fulfillment action on our end.
What Happens Next and Timing Expectations
Once released to store, your package enters the carrier’s network. Standard ground shipping typically takes 3-7 business days depending on origin and destination zip codes. Expedited or overnight options move faster but cost more. You’ll see carrier scans and updates in the tracking system, though these may or may not appear in your Fulfyld dashboard—that depends on your integration settings.
Customers receive tracking notifications directly from the carrier, not from Fulfyld, once the “released to store” status is active. Make sure your customers know they can expect this email from the carrier and that they should monitor that carrier tracking link, not just your Fulfyld dashboard.
Within 1-2 business days of “released to store,” the carrier should generate their first tracking scan (usually “package picked up” or “in transit”). If you don’t see any carrier movement after 48 hours, that’s when you should flag it for investigation.
Delivery confirmation typically comes 5-10 business days after “released to store” for standard ground shipments, though this varies widely by carrier and geography. Some carriers provide photo confirmation; others just mark as delivered.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
Issue: Order shows “released to store” but customer hasn’t received tracking. This usually means the carrier hasn’t sent their notification email yet. They typically do so within a few hours to 24 hours after pickup. Have the customer check their spam folder. If 48 hours have passed with no carrier email, contact Fulfyld with the order number and we’ll verify the package was actually picked up.
Issue: “Released to store” status is stuck and hasn’t updated in days. This can happen if the package was released but the carrier hasn’t scanned it yet, or if there’s a network sync delay between the carrier and Fulfyld. Check the carrier’s tracking system directly using the tracking number. If the carrier shows movement but Fulfyld still shows “released to store,” it’s usually a sync lag that resolves within 24 hours. If there’s no carrier movement either, escalate to Fulfyld.
Issue: We see multiple orders “released to store” at odd times, not aligned with our expected ship schedule. This can happen if orders are being released in smaller batches rather than in one daily push. Check your account settings with Fulfyld to confirm your preferred release schedule and batch consolidation options. Some accounts are set for real-time releases; others batch daily.
Issue: “Released to store” happened but the package never left the warehouse (customer waited weeks with no delivery). This is rare but critical. The carrier may have failed to actually pick up the package despite it being staged for them. Check the carrier’s internal tracking and contact them directly. In parallel, contact Fulfyld support with proof that released-to-store occurred but no carrier movement followed.
When to Escalate to Fulfyld Support
Reach out if you see “released to store” but no carrier tracking number appears after 48 hours, if the status has been stuck for more than 3 business days with no carrier updates, if customers report packages were never received but show released status, or if you suspect systematic issues with how releases are being batched or timed.
Also escalate if your integration with Fulfyld isn’t updating “released to store” status in real time—we can diagnose API sync issues. And if you need to reverse or recall a release that just happened, contact us immediately; windows for intervention are very narrow once the carrier has picked up.
Still stuck? Contact Fulfyld support and reference your order number and the timestamp when “released to store” was recorded—we’ll track it down.
