What Does “Order Submitted” Mean: A Closer Look at Your Order’s First Step

Order Submitted means your order has been received by Fulfyld’s system and is queued for processing, but hasn’t moved into active fulfillment yet. You’ll see this status within minutes of order placement, and it typically lasts 1-4 business hours before transitioning to “Processing” or “Pick & Pack.”

What Order Submitted Actually Means

When your order shows “Order Submitted,” it’s sitting in our intake queue. We’ve confirmed we received it, validated the basic information (shipping address, items, quantities), and created a record in the system. Think of it like a package arriving at a distribution center—it’s here, it’s accounted for, but nobody’s touching it yet.

This status appears automatically after you place the order. You’ll typically see it within 2-5 minutes. The order hasn’t been printed, picked from shelves, or packed. No one at our warehouse has physically interacted with it. It’s purely a digital acknowledgment that the order exists in our system and passed initial validation checks.

The order is not lost or stuck. This is a normal, expected status that every single order passes through.

Why This Status Exists

Order Submitted is a necessary buffer between order placement and actual warehouse work. Here’s why we maintain it:

  • System validation: We verify inventory is available for all items, that addresses are shippable, and that payment went through. If something fails here, you get notified before warehouse time is wasted.
  • Batch processing: We don’t pick and pack individual orders one at a time. Orders sit briefly so we can batch similar shipments together, which reduces your fulfillment costs by 8-12% and gets more orders out the same day.
  • Cut-off timing: If you submit an order at 4:47 PM and our daily pick-and-pack cycle started at 4:30 PM, your order queues for the next cycle rather than delaying the entire warehouse operation.
  • Cancellation window: Keeping orders in Submitted status briefly gives you a narrow window to catch mistakes before labor is spent on them. After this window closes, cancellations cost you a $3.50 return processing fee.

What Happens Next & Timing

After sitting in Order Submitted, your order moves through this timeline:

  • 1-4 business hours in Submitted: This is the standard window. Most orders clear this status within 2 hours during business days (Monday-Friday, 8 AM-5 PM EST).
  • Moves to Processing: Your order gets assigned to a pick wave, a packing station, and possibly a shipping method. This status usually lasts 4-8 hours depending on order complexity and current warehouse volume.
  • Moves to Shipped: The order is physically packed, labeled, and picked up by your carrier. You’ll get a tracking number at this point.
  • Delivery: Most orders ship within 24 business hours of placement and arrive within 2-5 business days depending on service level.

If you placed your order on a Friday at 2 PM, it’ll likely sit in Submitted status through Friday afternoon, then move to Processing on Monday morning during our next business day cycle.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

Order stuck in Submitted for 24+ hours: Check for these issues. First, verify your payment method didn’t decline—check your credit card company or your email for decline notices. Second, confirm your shipping address is complete and valid. Third, check if the order contains items that are temporarily out of stock; we don’t move orders forward if we can’t fulfill them completely. If none of these apply, contact support with your order number.

Order shows Submitted but you got a shipping email: This shouldn’t happen, but it sometimes reflects a system sync delay. Check your tracking number on the carrier’s website. If it’s moving, your order is actually already shipped—our status just hasn’t updated yet. These sync issues resolve within a few hours.

You want to add or cancel items: You have roughly 2-4 hours after placement to request changes while an order is in Submitted status. After it moves to Processing, changes cost your team additional fees. Email our helpdesk immediately with your request.

Order details are wrong (address, items, quantities): Contact support immediately while the order is still in Submitted. We can cancel and rebook it for free at this stage. If it’s already moved to Processing, cancellations trigger the $3.50 fee and require return-to-warehouse processing, which adds 5-7 business days to get inventory back.
